Perform a simple and quick test on the RJ-45 outlet for Power over Ethernet with the POE-TESTER from Planet Technology. This unit is an easy-to-use Power over Ethernet adapter for professionals, businesses and home users to determine the existence of Power over Ethernet.
This unit is designed to determine if IEEE 802.3af/at PoE voltage runs over UTP cable. The unit has the ability to determine the type of PSE (Power Source Equipment) for troubleshooting. The LED Indicators connects the POE-TESTER to the PSE or the RJ-45 outlet and lights up when the unit determines PoE voltage through the UTP cable. The unit determines if the PSE is mid-span, end-span, or a 4-pair 60-watt ultra PoE in seconds.
The POE-TESTER offers two LEDs for simple PSE mode identification.
A Power over Ethernet system includes a PSE (Power Sourcing Equipment) and a PD (Powered Device). The unit provides power in a PoE setup. There are two types of PSE, Mode A and Mode B. The PSE may either be a Mode A, end-span PoE switch or a Mode B, mid-span PoE injector.
Although powered devices that implement Mode A with end-span or Mode B with mid-span are not permitted by the IEEE 802.3af/at standard, some powered devices are still designed to operate with only one mode.
This may cause the PoE, PSE, and PD to be incompatible with each other in the applications. The POE-TESTER from Planet Technology tests the UTP cable for power and identifies its source, mid-span or end-span. When you determine that there is PoE at the end of UTP cable, then determining if the PD is compatible with the PSE, or it is a malfunctioning PD, is the next step.
