Product Overview

The Planet VC-231G is a Gigabit Ethernet to VDSL2 bridge that extends high-speed network connectivity over existing copper telephone lines without rewiring. It supports ITU-T VDSL2 (G.993.2, profiles 17a/30a) and G.vectoring (G.993.5), providing up to 200/160 Mbps at short range (300m) and around 20/12 Mbps over longer distances up to 1.4 km. It includes a DIP switch for CPE/CO mode selection, an RJ11 port with a splitter for simultaneous internet and POTS voice use, and supports 9K jumbo frames for improved data efficiency.

Key Configuration

• LAN port: 1 × 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 (auto-MDI/MDI-X)
• VDSL port: 1 × RJ11 female connector (AWG-24 or better twisted pair, up to 1.4 km range)
• Phone support: Included splitter enables POTS voice line sharing on the  same copper pair
• DIP switch: CO/CPE mode selection, G.INP/interleaved mode, band plan and SNR adjustment options
• Switching: Store-and-forward architecture, 2K MAC table, 9K jumbo frame support
• Size/Build: 97 × 70 × 26 mm metal housing, 184 g lightweight design

Key Features

Supports VDSL2 Profile 17a/30a with G.vectoring (ITU-T G.993.5) for crosstalk reduction and improved line stability. Delivers up to 200/160 Mbps in symmetric mode at 300 m and up to 225/122 Mbps in asymmetric mode, with performance decreasing to around 1.4 km depending on line conditions and noise protection (G.INP support).

Technical Context

Designed for Ethernet extension over existing telephone copper lines using VDSL2 technology, enabling point-to-point links without new cabling. Vectoring improves throughput by cancelling interference in multi-line environments, while CO/CPE mode selection defines master/slave roles for deployment in structured pairs. Suitable for extending LAN services across buildings, rooms, or remote endpoints.

Installation Notes

Compact metal unit (97 × 70 × 26 mm, 184 g) with RJ45 Ethernet and RJ11 VDSL interface. Requires an external 5V DC, 2A power supply. Includes a splitter for simultaneous POTS and data use over the same line. Configuration is limited to DIP switch settings for CO/CPE mode, with LED indicators for link and mode status. Plug-and-play deployment over existing telephone wiring.
