Technical Context

The controlled 700 Hz to 2 kHz frequency response is a deliberate restriction to the speech band. By rolling off everything below and above intelligible voice, the speaker automatically suppresses low-frequency rumble and high-frequency hiss from the surrounding environment, which raises intelligibility in noisy locations.
